"The Essential Jesus"

Jesus is the focal point of God's plan to save the world from sin, and to offer people the gift of eternal life. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is literally the story of Jesus. In both Small Group Bible Studies and in Sunday morning preaching, we will take a comprehensive look at what Jesus said and did – so we can determine who he really was and is. The study includes:

• Who is Jesus? We'll begin with 5 readings from contemporaries of Jesus.

• The Old Testament Witness. Because the story of Jesus began long before the manger, our next 25 readings in the Old Testament trace what the Bible says about the coming of a Savior in the Prophets and the Psalms.

• The New Testament Witness. The longest part of our journey, 65 readings, will follow the story about Jesus in the New Testament. We'll examine his birth and the beginning of his ministry; his sermons, parables, miracles and prayers; the hard sayings of Jesus; his crucifixion and resurrection; the early church; and the second coming of Jesus.

• Who is Jesus to you? The final 5 readings provide us with the opportunity to form our own opinion about who Jesus is – and what he has to do with our life today.
